Monogram Microwaves and Advantium Ovens: Models Guide

A speed oven combines microwave energy with other cooking methods, so a fault can sit in more than one system.

At a glance

Overview

Monogram microwave and Advantium units are built into cabinetry above or beside a wall oven, and many are trim-kit mounted. They turn up in tall stacks in Bay Area condos and flats. This guide lists the models, explains the two verified messages and covers what owners can safely try.

Models

All six are current. ZSB and ZSA prefixes identify Advantium speed ovens. We do not list wattage or capacity, so read your own label.

Where to find the label

It is usually on the frame when the door is open, often along the side edge or the top of the opening. Photograph it before you call.

Verified messages

  • Err or SENSOR ERROR: a sensor cooking cycle was interrupted because the door was opened or Start or Pause was pressed before steam was detected, or steam was not detected in the maximum time. The message scrolls until cleared.
  • LOCKED: the control panel is locked, and an L is displayed.

Both are about use, not failure, so try them first.

Common faults

Runs but does not heat

The magnetron, the diode, the high-voltage parts or a door switch can be at fault. Those parts store dangerous energy even when unplugged, so this is not an owner repair. See microwave runs but does not heat.

Turntable not turning

The tray may be seated wrongly, the support roller may be dirty or the motor may have failed. Turntable not turning gives the order.

Sparks inside

Arcing can come from metal, foil, a damaged cavity coating or a food splash on the waveguide cover. Stop immediately and read microwave sparking inside.

Speed oven cooking problems

The Advantium method uses more than one heat source. If a mode fails but another works, a technician checks the lamps, the fan and the sensor.

Installation details

Built-in microwaves rely on trim kits, a ventilated cabinet and a dedicated circuit. A kit that is crooked, a vent that is blocked or a cabinet that sags can change how the door closes and how the unit cools itself.

Safe checks

  1. Confirm the breaker and that the plug or connection is seated.
  2. Check that the door closes completely.
  3. Wipe the cavity and door seal.
  4. Seat the turntable and roller correctly.
  5. Look at whether the panel is locked.

Never open the housing. Stop at once if you see sparks, and switch off at the breaker.

Daily use that protects the unit

Keep the cavity clean, especially around the door seal and the waveguide cover, because a film of grease can cause arcing and odors. Do not run the unit empty, and avoid metal dishes unless the manual allows a specific accessory. If a bowl boils over, wipe it as soon as it is safe.

Check that the turntable tray sits on its roller ring and that nothing on the door latch is bent. Heavy pans placed on an open door can bend the hinge and ruin the seal, which in turn affects both heating and safety.

When you contact us, note which cooking mode failed, whether the display responded and whether you heard any unusual sound.

Stacks and trim kits

Many Monogram speed ovens are mounted in a tall stack with a wall oven below and a drawer or cabinet above. Heat from the oven rises into the unit above, so a stack with blocked vents can make the upper unit cut out. If the unit sits in a tight cabinet, check that the vent openings around the trim kit are clear, and let the oven below cool before you run a long speed-oven cycle. When a trim kit is loose or crooked, tell us, since that changes how the door closes.
