Monogram Column Refrigerators: Widths, Series and Faults

Column refrigerators stand alone in a tall opening, and a pair of them can sit side by side with a column freezer to look like one wall of cold storage.

At a glance

Overview

An integrated column refrigerator is a single-door tall unit built into cabinetry, meant to be used by itself or paired with a column freezer. Many San Francisco kitchens use two or three of them to build a full refrigeration wall. When one unit misbehaves, it can look as if the whole wall has a problem, so a careful read of which column is acting up saves time.

Models

We list six column refrigerators. Three are current and three are discontinued.

  • 24 inches, current: ZIR241NBRII, custom panel and handle required.
  • 30 inches, current: ZIR301NBRII, custom panel and handle required.
  • 36 inches, current: ZIR361NBRII, custom panel and handle required.
  • 30 inches, discontinued: ZIK30GNDII, listed with a custom panel.
  • 36 inches, discontinued: ZIR360NHLH with a custom panel, and ZIRP360NHLH in Professional Stainless Steel.

The ZIR prefix identifies an integrated column refrigerator. The current units are panel-ready, so the visible front is the one your cabinet maker supplied.

Finding the label

The model label is usually inside the cabinet on a side wall, behind a shelf or near the top of the compartment. On older discontinued models it can also be on the door frame. Because panels hide the usual spots, open the door fully and look along the edge before you search elsewhere.

What goes wrong in a column

  • Running all the time. The unit has a sealed gap around it, so heat from the compressor can build up if the grille is blocked. A technician checks airflow, condenser cleanliness and fan operation. See why a column refrigerator runs constantly.
  • Uneven cooling top to bottom. A tall single compartment depends on the fan and air passages. Overpacked shelves can block them.
  • Heavy panels and door sag. A custom panel adds weight. If the door drops or no longer closes squarely, the gasket stops sealing and the control compensates by running longer.
  • Water and ice parts. Models with a filter or water supply can have slow flow when the valve is partly closed.
  • Display and control faults. A blank or stuck control can follow a power event; see power outage trouble.

When a pair behaves differently

Side-by-side columns are separate machines with their own controls. If one refrigerator column is warm while the freezer beside it is fine, there is no shared fault to chase; work on the warm column only. Compare what each display shows and write it down.

About codes

Freezers in this line don’t have a published code list we rely on, so we go by what the display shows rather than turn a flashing light into a cause. Note the message, the time and what the unit was doing, then use the error code index to see whether another family page covers something similar.

Owner checks that are safe

  1. Check the breaker for that column and any outlet protection.
  2. Close the door firmly and see that the gasket sits flat all around.
  3. Clear the shelves away from internal vents.
  4. Confirm the water supply valve is open if the unit has a filter or ice option.
  5. Vacuum a removable front grille only if it comes off without tools.

Leave the unit in its opening, do not undo panel brackets, and never touch refrigerant lines.

Living with a tall single door

Because a column has one door and one compartment, every opening lets out a full column of cold air, and the cold sinks straight to the floor. That is why the bottom shelf can stay cooler than the top when the unit is working well, and why a top shelf that feels warm deserves attention before the lower one does. Keep milk and fragile items on the middle shelves, and avoid pushing wide platters against the back wall, where they can sit in front of the air passage.

Pairing matters when you plan changes. If you are adding a second column beside the first, leave the clearance the install sheet shows between the two cabinets, since heat from one unit should not warm the side of the next. When a homeowner replaces a door panel, the new panel should match the weight the hinges were set for, because an over-heavy panel is a quiet cause of a gasket gap that develops over months.

Booking a visit

Use Monogram column refrigerator repair when the checks do not help. We diagnose first, put the estimate in writing and wait for your word before any work. A pair or trio of columns usually means we look at each one separately. Freezer columns are covered in Monogram freezers.
